While going to the dentist can be a nerve-wracking experience for anyone, it can be especially worrisome for children. At Haas Dental Associates, we strive to create a relaxing and welcoming environment for your child.

Even so, sometimes it’s just not enough and sedation is needed to:

  •       Reduce your child’s anxiety

  • Prevent discomfort

  • Help our dentists work

As pediatric specialists, we excel at improving your child’s smile safely and effectively while still keeping them comfortable. We are extensively trained in both conscious and complete pediatric sedation.

Dr. Haas and Dr. Trontz are some of the only pediatric dentists in the state to hold a permit to sedate children. We offer our pediatric dental sedation to patients throughout Derry, Dover and surrounding areas.

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry allows your doctor to provide a variety of dental treatments safely and comfortably for patients who experience anxiety when visiting the dentist. There are several benefits to sedation dentistry, including:

  • No memory of undergoing the procedure
  • No sense of time while under sedation
  • No sense of smell or sound
  • No fear or anxiety during treatment

Patients who have undergone a procedure using sedation dentistry will tell you it is a simple, relaxing way to experience dentistry.

Our Pediatric Sedation Options

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide is often referred to as laughing gas and has been used for over 200 years. This relaxant is delivered via a mask to minimize discomfort during your child’s appointment. The patient remains awake at all times and able to easily communicate. It is not strong enough for all levels of anxiety and the patient must be able to breathe through their nose for administration. It is a low-impact sedative, so there is very little recover time post-treatment.

IV Sedation/PDAA/NDAA

Intravenous sedation is a great option for those who are very nervous or for individuals with special needs. This places the patient in a deeper level of sedation, meaning child will be asleep during their treatment to help our dentists perform a safe and detailed treatment in our office.

All treatment is completed in one visit. An IV does need a pediatric anesthesiologist to administer the sedation and 2 nurses available. Recovery is quick and the procedure is safe.

Hospital GA

In a Hospital GA procedure, patient is completely asleep at Parkland Medical Center and is intubated. All work is completed in one visit in a very safe and controlled environment.
