The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children get a check-up with an orthodontic specialist no later than age 7.
The reasons for an orthodontic check-up include:
Early detection of problems especially with the growth of the jaw can be found and early treatment could help:
- Guide jaw growth
- Lower the risk of trauma
- Correct harmful oral habits
- Improve aesthetics
- Guide permanent teeth into a better position
Even though your child’s teeth may appear straight, there could be concerns that only an orthodontist would be able to identify.
Earlier treatment in certain cases will prevent more serious problems from developing and as a result will make treatment at later age shorter and less complex. In more serious cases it’s important to have treatment established before the face and jaws finish growing.
Dr. Kramer’s goal is to meet the needs of each child individually. She provides a complimentary orthodontic evaluation for each of her patients and only recommends treatment when necessary. Often she will place patients on an observation schedule which allows her to follow the growth and development of each child very closely. Complimentary orthodontic observation appointments allows each child who need orthodontic intervention to start right on time.
